Inspiration From A Kid

Each morning while eating breakfast, my 17-year old son watches the sports channel, and often during that time of the day, an athlete is featured. Today, it was Jason Crone, and his story grabbed my attention. It truly is inspirational.

Four years ago, on March 8, 2003, Jason suffered a spinal cord injury that resulted in quadriplegia. The then 15-year-old was playing hockey for the Owen Sound Attack when he was checked from behind and slammed into the boards. As a hockey Mom, I felt the horror that he and his family must have endured.

How easy would have it been for Jason to feel sorry for himself? After all he was just a kid.

Instead Jason chose to stay positive. Although Jason's hockey career was over, his life was not. When a group of players from quadriplegic rugby came to visit him in the hospital two years ago, Jason decided to become involved in the sport. Today, he plays for the London Annihilators, and he has his sights set on the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

The next time, you need a dose of inspiration....think of Jason. I read a quote not long ago that said: a setback is a setup for a comeback

Dream BIG

When I was a young girl, I dreamed about being a Mom and at a tender age of ten years, I even had the name of my baby picked out: a boy named Jeff. When I was a teen, I dreamed of owning my own car and as a young woman, I dreamed of owning a home. As I got older, my dream was to own my own business, and now I dream of becoming a founder of a worthwhile cause. I love to dream. Someone said dreams are what make life tolerable, and perhaps there is truth to that, because dreams really do get me excited and when I am excited, I am positive, happy and live in anticipation and expectation. I actually BELIEVE that my dreams will come true. It’s the Law of Attraction, what we focus us grows and when we are in good vibration, there is no way it can’t happen.

Today, I am living my dreams. I have a son named Jeffrey, a brand new car, a lovely home, and I own my own business. I am working toward building a foundation and my goal is to do that with the proceeds of my book, Expect Success – Be Unstoppable, A Woman’s Secret Recipe.

In his book, Awakening the Entrepreneur Within, Michael E. Gerber, talks about two types of dreams, the personal and the impersonal. The personal, he calls “incremental dreams” because when they are fulfilled, we are now in need of other dreams to pursue to replace them. There is no end to them! The impersonal, however, are the ones that awaken the entrepreneur. The impersonal dream is just that – it is anything but personal. Michael says: it is not about you and it is not about me. It is about “sudden seeing” of a possibility.

At an earlier age, my dreams were personal, but now, they are so much bigger and they are not about me, they are about making a difference, to give back, and to live with purpose and to accomplish what I was designed to do.

What do you dream about? Imagine what you would attempt, if you knew you could not fail. How would you feel if you made an impact in the lives of others? How will you feel if you don’t follow your heart and live out your dream?

If you want to be larger than life, you need a dream that's larger than life. Small dreams won't serve you or anyone else. It takes the same amount of time to dream small as it does to dream big. So be dream BIG!

Don’t Wait Another Day, Do it NOW!

A candle burns brightly; then suddenly with one quick puff of air, it burns no longer. This visual of the candle burning and then going out can be paralleled to life: my life ….your life. I couldn’t help think about this as I watched my dad pass away a few short weeks ago. He had a long, full life, and like the candle once lighting the room, it shone no more and darkness fell. I will never forget how sad, yet so beautiful the experience of being with my dad during the final few hours of his life. I still find it difficult to grasp that I will never see him again.

While I often reflect on the hours I watched him pass away, I couldn’t help but think of my own life. What do I want to do with my life? How do I want to be remembered? Those thoughts created a sense of urgency, and through the last few hours of my dad’s life, he gave me the strength to think about my legacy and how I wanted to make a difference.

What about you? Are you someone who has a desire to do something, yet are afraid to make that change? Perhaps you want to change careers, or you want to start a business or maybe you need to end a relationship. Life is fleeting. I encourage you to think about how you are spending your time. Are you happy? If not, think about what you can do to change. Better yet, think about what will happen if you don’t make a change. How will you feel at the end of your life if you don’t follow your heart and live your dream? Think about the people who could have benefited from what you had to offer and how it may have changed their life for the better.

Now, you don’t need to lose a loved one to know how precious life is and how short life is. But you can be awakened to that reality, take the lesson, and do something about it. Don’t wait as if you have endless tomorrows. You don’t. Start making changes today.

What You Focus On Grows

Yesterday on Oprah, Martha Beck, Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson talked about The Law of Attraction, and many guests shared their personal experiences as a result of following those laws.

A very important part of getting what you want is saying affirmations. Did you know affirmations are simply you being in control of your thoughts, declaring to the universe what you want to be true. And when you want it to be true, it will be true because that is your intention.

Intention is the power behind affirmations. When you assert something to be true, it is true because your intention makes it true.

Really understanding the power of affirmations makes you more conscious. You are thinking consciously and creatively when you make affirmations a part of your everyday, habitual thinking.

You have an average of 50,000 thoughts a day. You want to make them conscious and positive.
Millions of people around the world have changed their lives, literally, with affirmations. When you are committed, there's always a way.

So how does a person develop the habit of saying affirmations? Dr. Patricia Ross and Scott Sharp Armstrong co-authored Best Affirmations Workbook and this workbook is a 30-day step-by-step guide to start creating the life you want; it will show you how to manage/control what you think. You will understand that your thoughts are powerful, and by bringing your thoughts to conscious level, you will see how your thoughts really do create your reality, for good or for bad. You will feel empowered because you will also know how to recognize and handle negative thoughts.

You can go to http://www.bestaffirmations.com/ to read some of the testimonials from people who have had life-changing experiences as a result of the Best Affirmations Workbook

Reflecting and Renewing

Time has never escaped as quickly as it did this year. It was a terrific year in terms of setting and accomplishing goals. I even achieved a three-year goal! You may have heard it before, but writing out your goals is the key to achieving them, and what is even better, is going through your list and crossing them off!

The New Year is almost here and you can start your year by planning what you want to achieve in 2008. Take time to set goals; it will help you focus on what you want and it will keep you on purpose. Your goals can be in several different areas of your life. Here are some: financial, career/professional, physical/sports, family/relationships, travel, material/tangible, community/service, spiritual/inner development, intellectual/educational.

After you have gone through the exercise of writing out your goals, go back and read them. How does it make you feel thinking about achieving your goals? Great, right!

Expect the best year ever!

Heading into the 4th Quarter

When I see "4th Quarter," I think football, and it's not that I'm a big football fan. However, I did have a very brief football career; it started and ended when I was 13 years old. I played a couple games of flag football, and I even scored one touchdown.....for the other team! Right after that game, I slipped a disc in my back, and I never played again. A year later though when I gained so much weight, I was teased profusely by the boys and they nicknamed me Green Bay Packer, after one of the NFL teams. Well, enough about me...and football.

What I wanted to do is use scoring touchdowns as an analogy to achieving goals. Last week I mentioned the importance of having coaches and mentors to assist in reaching goals, and today, I want to talk a bit more about that.

First of all, ask yourself, "Am I on target to meet my 2007 goals?" The year is breezing by and we are heading into the 4th quarter of 2007!

For years (that is why I am the Princess of Persistence) I tried to figure out what I wanted to be, do and have in my life, and I bought so many books to help give me clarity. I was inspired by people’s success and I was highly motivated to succeed, but at the completion of each book, all I had was knowledge. I needed to put that knowledge into action, but I didn’t know how. I was happy for other people’s success, but I was discouraged because of my lack of progress; in fact, I was stuck! If I wanted to move from mediocrity to greatness, I needed a coach. I needed someone to help me find clarity in what I want and I needed the support.

For most of us, extra support can make all the difference in the world. Having a coach gives you the vehicle for accelerated accomplishment towards your goals. In this challenging world it is easy to get off track with what is most important to you. A coach keeps you focused, on purpose, and works with you to redefine goals and dreams.

Now, if you are thinking, "What goals? I have no goals." or "It's too late, I'll never reach my goals." Stop those thoughts now! It's never too late to start achieving your goals. If you want to make change, you can do it anytime and there is no better time to start than right NOW!

There were so many benefits of having a coach. For me, it was having someone on my side, rooting for me, giving me honest feedback, and helping me achieve my goals and helping me set new goals.

"How do I find a coach?" you ask. Well, Dr. Matt Starcevich, Ph.D. has come up with ten great questions to see if your coach passes the test! Answer "Yes" or "No" to the following questions.

1. The coach sees you as trustworthy, sincere and willing to learn.
2. The coach has a unique perspective or insight to offer.
3. The coach is willing to give of himself or herself and help others.
4. The coach is easy to talk to and be trusted. You don’t feel vulnerable.
5. The coach wants to see you succeed.
6. The coach is a teacher, willing to help others grow and develop.
7. The coach expects to learn something during your time together.
8. The coach believes that you should grow out of the need for his/her help and never use phrases like “You need me” or “I can help you get ahead.”
9. The coach believes that you need to struggle and find your own way and never would say, “I know best.”
10. You have a good feeling about working with this coach

Working with a coach was one of the best decisions I made. With the help of my coach, I have been able to accomplish many goals and I am now working toward bigger goals and I am visualizing my dreams coming true.

If you have been struggling with reaching a goal, I encourage you to get a coach.

Here is what my coach told me before I started working with him, and he constantly reminds me whenever the Demon of Doubt surfaces. Say this outloud and then write it on an index card and post it where you can see it.

Greatness begins by saying "YES" to an opportunity!

Go for it! Success is waiting for you!
